New App For Roman Catholic Confessions

Apple has come out with a brand new app for their iPhones, iPads and iTouches which is to help those catholics who are seeking wisdom and forgiveness for their sins. It is brand new and it costs $1.99 on apple's store website. It is supposed to be very safe and password protected for the consumers safety.

This new application is being highly praised and people are calling it "the perfect app for penitent". It asks questions such as "Have I been faithful to the gospel?". It expands into the more personal and intimate questions after. the next process is the Rite of Penance which the person then says their sins. Following the confession, the app gives you 7 acts of contrition which is used to help heal you as a Catholic. It is your way of giving back for being forgiven.

The app was designed because of motivation from Pope Benedict XVI's speech last year addressing the public and telling them Priests should reach out using digital communications. Two priests, Fr. Thomas G. Weinandy and Fr. Dan Scheidt collaborated during the process of building this app. Now the creators of this app are not saying this has the ability to replace confession. Since this was a Roman Catholic related incident, the spokesperson for the Vatican (Father Fredico Lombardi), spoke and said this is no substitution for confession. This app cannot grant any absolution. In order for confession to take place, both the priest and penitent must be together. People look at this app as a guideline and support tool for the time leading up to confession.

Being a Roman Catholic myself, I believe that this is a very useful app if people don't rely on it too much. You can't be forgiven for you sins by god via iPhone or any digital communications device. When being forgiven, it must all be transferring through the soul and mind. With that being said, this is a very creative and well designed app. It will help Catholics through a time of need and will make it easier for them to understand what they have done wrong. It will help the Catholic community become more motivated and will make all Catholics better individuals.
