Numerous families gathered Friday to bury 12 elementary school students between the age of 12-15. It was a very strange and horrifying incident. 12 students were shot and killed by 23 year old Wellington Oliveria. There were 10 girls killed and 2 boys. Most of them were shot point blank in the head. 12 others were wounded in this catastrophe that took place at Tasso de Silveira elementary school. 2 of the wounded children are in grave condition right now. The killer (Wellington Oliveria) shot himself after being confronted by the local police force. Many locals that lived near the school stopped and left flowers on the 12 crosses left in front of the school. Each child's name was written on a piece of paper at the bottom of the cross. The funerals for the 12 victims was posted on the school gate. Many teachers wrote messages claiming that Brazil's security for school's needs to be visited. The tradition of Brazilians is that a person be buried the day after their death. The President of Brazil is expected to arrive to be there for a few funerals. The school was celebrating its 40th anniversary on the day of the shooting. It left a horrible scene with blood in the classrooms and on the walls.
Witnesses said that the killer was stalking the halls of the school that he previously attended and was picking kids and lining them up to kill them. The children were begging him not to. One after another he shot the children in the head. Oliveria took his own life after being shot by police. This marks the worst school massacre in Brazil's history.
This is an incident that angers me and upsets me. To see the innocent lives of 12 children be taken is tragic. No matter what caused the killer to commit such an act, it will never excuse what he did. Just last week here at St. Andrew's we went over the protocol for school lock down. You think it can never happen but as just displayed yesterday in Brazil, it can happen to anyone at anytime. Every school in the world should have security plan set in place to help eliminate losing these young, precious children. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the children who passed away.

This is truly a tragic story to hear that 12 innocent Brazilian children had to be a part of. The fact that a grown man shoots 10 girls and 2 boys and in the end shoots himself. It's strange stories like this one that make me think why people do the things they do. There is really some crazy people in this world.
